Meet Bridgetown Music Therapy: Making a difference through the power of music

Music makes a difference! That’s what motivated Alexis Baker to create Bridgetown Music Therapy.

Bridgetown Music Therapy is a monthly subscription service of online music programs for seniors. This service provides older adults with weekly meaningful and enriching music activities, such as singing along with a provided video & lyrics, guided movement, and relaxation.

Having worked as a music therapist for eight years, Alexis says she began Bridgetown Music Therapy because she’d always been drawn to older adults—specifically because of their wisdom, humor, and life stories. She wanted to serve this population by using her passion for music to alleviate some of the most common maladies in the senior community: loneliness, depression, anxiety, agitation, and declining health. She works to bring the healing power of joy to those experiencing the limitations of aging.

While other music therapy services reach a wide variety of clients, Bridgetown Music Therapy has chosen to specialize in serving one specific population they feel passionate about—and one they believe they can serve well. Additionally, by offering an online option for their services, they can reach more people—and those who otherwise may not have access to music therapy.

When asked what she would want a potential client to know about Bridgetown Music Therapy, Alexis said, “Music has so many intrinsic benefits. It can connect people and spark joy!”

To take it a step—or beat!—further, Alexis believes that music is a natural motivator for the mind and body—and it’s good for the soul! “That’s why our goal at Bridgetown Music Therapy is to make a difference using music,” she says. And since starting five years ago, Bridgetown Music Therapy has done just that. Below are the experiences of some of her clients, and how her music has made a difference for them:

“Alexis is so positive, upbeat and has a natural calming presence for our residents. Thank you for all that you do for our community. You’re truly invaluable.”

Monica B., Memory Care Programs Supervisor

“Our residents are absolutely loving the music therapy videos so far!  One resident especially connected to the music and was so happy at the chance to sing again.  I got a little emotional watching her; she hasn’t lit up like that in months…Thank you for making this possible for our community!”

 Laura R., Programs Supervisor
